Thyroid panel TSH, FT3, FT4 – complete assessment of thyroid function for fatigue, weight fluctuations, and hair loss.
The thyroid regulates the metabolic rate of every cell in the body – it affects body weight, temperature, heart rate, mood, skin and hair quality, fertility, and energy levels. The thyroid panel includes TSH, the pituitary hormone that controls the gland's function, and the free fractions of thyroid hormones FT3 and FT4, which actually act on tissues. Measuring TSH alone is sometimes insufficient. Combining it with FT3 and FT4 allows distinguishing primary from secondary hypothyroidism, detecting hyperthyroidism, identifying subclinical forms, and assessing the effectiveness of levothyroxine therapy. Hypothyroidism manifests as fatigue, feeling cold, weight gain, constipation, dry skin, hair loss, low mood, and menstrual cycle disturbances. Hyperthyroidism presents the opposite picture: weight loss despite appetite, heart palpitations, hand tremors, sweating, anxiety, and insomnia. Thyroid diseases particularly affect women and often develop over years before being diagnosed. Regular monitoring is recommended when planning pregnancy, during pregnancy, post-partum, with a family history of autoimmune diseases, and whenever symptoms have no other explanation. It is worth supplementing the result with anti-TPO antibodies for Hashimoto's disease.
