Hormone panel for women – oestradiol, LH, FSH, prolactin. Diagnosis of cycle, PMS, PCOS, and menopause.
The female hormone panel provides a structured overview of the hypothalamus–pituitary–ovarian axis, which regulates the menstrual cycle, fertility, mood, skin and hair condition, and bone density. We measure oestradiol, pituitary hormones LH and FSH, prolactin, and hormones affecting androgenisation. Such a set allows us to explain the most common problems reported in clinical practice: irregular or absent periods, heavy bleeding, severe premenstrual syndrome, adult acne, excessive hair growth, hair loss, decreased libido, mood swings, and difficulties conceiving. Characteristic LH to FSH ratios support the diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome, elevated prolactin explains ovulation disorders and galactorrhoea, and high FSH with low oestradiol indicates ovarian decline and the perimenopausal period. Since hormone levels change during the cycle, the timing of blood collection is crucial – standardly, we perform the panel between day 2 and day 5 of the cycle. The result, combined with symptoms, forms a reliable basis for discussion with a gynaecologist or endocrinologist and for informed treatment selection.
