Test description

The male hormone panel comprehensively assesses androgen metabolism and the pituitary–testicular axis. In addition to total testosterone, we measure SHBG (sex hormone-binding globulin), which allows us to estimate the bioavailable fraction – the one that actually acts on tissues. Total testosterone alone can be within the normal range, while the free fraction is too low. Pituitary hormones LH and FSH indicate whether an eventual androgen deficiency originates in the testes or in central regulation, which directly translates into the method of treatment. Prolactin and oestradiol complete the picture: elevated prolactin lowers libido and testosterone, and excess oestradiol promotes gynaecomastia, water retention, and worsening body composition. This panel is indicated for decreased energy and motivation, lowered libido, erectile dysfunction, muscle mass loss despite training, increased abdominal fat, mood and concentration deterioration, and in the diagnosis of male fertility. It also forms the basis for conscious prevention after the age of 40 and a reference point before starting any hormone therapy.
