Blood testosterone test – assessment of androgen balance, energy, libido, and muscle mass. Results in 24–48 hours, Glasgow.
Testosterone is the main androgen hormone, produced primarily in the testes in men, and in the ovaries and adrenal glands in women. It is responsible for building and maintaining muscle mass, bone mineral density, red blood cell production, libido, fertility, as well as mood and energy levels. Measuring total testosterone helps detect androgen deficiency (hypogonadism), which in men manifests as decreased energy, reduced libido, erectile dysfunction, loss of muscle mass, increased abdominal fat, and impaired concentration. In women, excess testosterone can be a marker of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and may manifest as acne, hirsutism, oily hair, and irregular cycles. Testosterone levels follow a diurnal rhythm – the highest values occur in the morning, which is why the sample is collected between 7:00 and 10:00 AM. The result is always interpreted in the context of clinical symptoms, age, and other hormones (LH, FSH, SHBG, prolactin, estradiol). At Health Factory, sample collection takes about 20 minutes, and you receive your results in a secure electronic format within 24–48 hours.
