Kidney panel – creatinine, eGFR, urea, uric acid and electrolytes. Early detection of kidney disease.
The Kidney Panel assesses the most important parameters of glomerular filtration and electrolyte balance: creatinine along with the calculated eGFR, urea, uric acid, and electrolytes – sodium and potassium. This set allows for the detection of chronic kidney disease at a stage when it does not yet show any symptoms. The kidneys filter approximately 180 litres of blood per day, remove metabolic waste products, regulate blood pressure, water-electrolyte and acid-base balance, and participate in red blood cell production and vitamin D activation. Damage progresses slowly and insidiously – symptoms such as oedema, hypertension, nocturia, skin itching, or chronic fatigue only appear when there is significant loss of function. Those particularly at risk include individuals with diabetes, hypertension, obesity, those chronically taking NSAID painkillers, and those with a family history of kidney disease. Uric acid is of separate importance: its excess leads to gout, kidney stones, and is associated with an increased cardiovascular risk. Early diagnosis enables effective slowing of disease progression.
