Test description

A full peripheral blood count is the most commonly performed laboratory test worldwide and the best starting point for assessing overall health. It analyses three main cell lines: erythrocytes (red blood cells), leukocytes (white blood cells), and platelets, along with red blood cell indices MCV, MCH, MCHC, and RDW. Red blood cell parameters – haemoglobin, haematocrit, and red blood cell volume – help diagnose anaemia and initially determine its type: microcytic (most often due to iron deficiency), macrocytic (vitamin B12 or folic acid deficiency), or normocytic (chronic diseases). A white blood cell differential with breakdown into neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils helps distinguish bacterial from viral infections, indicates allergic and parasitic reactions, and detects abnormalities in the haematopoietic system. The number and volume of platelets provide information about the risk of bleeding or hypercoagulability. A full blood count is a screening test worth repeating at least once a year, as well as before planned procedures, during treatment, and always in cases of chronic fatigue and recurrent infections. An abnormal result signals the need for further, targeted diagnostics – at Health Factory, you can combine it in a single blood draw with ferritin, vitamin B12, CRP, or a thyroid panel.

Biomarkers measured

WBC (White Blood Cells / Leukocytes): Assessment of the immune system, detection of infections.RBC (Red Blood Cells / Erythrocytes): Oxygen transport to body cells.HGB (Haemoglobin): Oxygen-binding protein, main indicator of anaemia.HCT (Haematocrit): Ratio of blood cells to plasma, assessment of blood density and hydration.MCV (Mean Corpuscular Volume): Size of erythrocytes, differentiating types of anaemia.MCH (Mean Corpuscular Haemoglobin): Haemoglobin content in a single red blood cell.MCHC (Mean Corpuscular Haemoglobin Concentration): Haemoglobin concentration in red blood cells.RDW (Red Cell Distribution Width): Assessment of erythrocyte size variation.PLT (Platelets / Thrombocytes): Responsible for blood clotting and vessel healing.MPV (Mean Platelet Volume): Assessment of platelet age and activity.LYM (Lymphocytes): Immune response, mainly to viral infections.MON (Monocytes): Clearing the body of inflammation.NEU (Neutrophils): First line of defence against bacterial infections.EOS (Eosinophils): Indicator of allergic and parasitic reactions.BAS (Basophils): Participation in allergic and inflammatory reactions.
