Molecular Allergy Diagnostics (ALEX 2.0)
Molecular Allergy Diagnostics ALEX 2.0 – 295 Extracts and Molecules
Molecular allergy diagnostics ALEX 2.0 – over 295 allergens and molecular components from a single blood sample.
Test description
ALEX 2.0 is the most modern allergology test available, based on molecular diagnostics. From a single blood sample, it simultaneously measures over 295 allergens – both extracts and individual molecular components – covering tree, grass, and weed pollens, house dust mites, animal dander and epidermis, moulds, insect venoms, latex, and a broad spectrum of food allergens. The advantage of molecular diagnostics over classical tests is that it identifies the specific protein causing the reaction. This allows differentiation between a true primary sensitisation and a cross-reaction – for example, symptoms after eating an apple or hazelnut in someone allergic to birch pollen. This distinction has direct practical consequences: it helps avoid unnecessary, drastic dietary eliminations and accurately assesses the risk of a severe anaphylactic reaction. The results of ALEX 2.0 also provide a solid basis for qualification for specific immunotherapy (desensitisation) and the selection of the appropriate preparation. The test is performed from a single blood draw, without discontinuing antihistamine medications and without the risk of skin reaction, making it safe even for individuals with extensive skin lesions, children, and patients taking medications long-term.
